Maintaining Good Water Quality in Your In-Ground Pool
12 March 2018
It’s a well-known fact that our winters are long and cold. So it’s only natural to want to take full advantage of your in-ground pool during the summers. Val-Morin Signature Pools would like to share a few tips for maintaining the quality of the water in your pool during the warm season so you can savor every ray of sunshine while it lasts.
Check your pool’s pH and chlorine levels regularly
Maintaining a pH of 7.4 in your in-ground pool will help keep the water clean and clear. Otherwise, it may become cloudy and the chlorine won’t be as effective at ensuring optimal quality. There are a number of products you can use to test your water each week and balance the pH.
As for chlorine, it’s essential for preventing the growth of algae and for dissolving organic waste in your pool’s water. Available in granules or tablets, the chlorine in your pool must be maintained at 2 to 3 ppm to ensure good water quality.
Clean your pool frequently
To prevent stains on the walls of your pool and to improve the efficiency of the filter, weekly cleaning is recommended with the help of a net to trap floating debris and a pool sweeper to remove suspended particles. There are also automatic pool cleaners that will maintain the waterline, bottom and walls of your pool.
Don’t allow animals in your pool
Domestic animals shed a considerable amount of bacteria and organic waste when in the water. To avoid throwing off your pool’s pH balance and overworking the filter, prevent your animals from taking a dip. On the other hand, it’s a good idea for you to take a dip regularly to help circulate the water. Because of the distribution of your pool’s water jets and filter, the water remains calmer in some areas than in others. So, use your pool as often as possible!
